World Cancer Day is an International Day marked on February 4th to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment. World Cancer Day is led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) to support the goals of the World Cancer declaration, written in 2008. The primary goal of World Cancer Day is to significantly reduce illness and death caused by cancer and is opportunity to rally the international community to end the injustice of preventable suffering from cancer. The day is observed by the United Nations.

*The Activity of World Cancer Empathy

World Cancer Day targets misinformation, raises awareness, and reduces stigma. Multiple initiatives are run on World Cancer Day to show support for those affected by cancer. One of these movements are #NoHairSelfie, a global movement to have “hairticipants” shave their heads either physically or virtually to show a symbol of courage for those undergoing cancer treatment. Images of participants then shared all over social media. Hundreds of events around the world also take place.

In this case, to support the goals of the World Cancer Day BBC-ETS Banyumanik Branch held an activity that related with the World Cancer Day, the name of the activity is Sunday Meeting “World Cancer Day-Growing the Empathy, Tolerance, and Care”. This activity is purposed to give the young generations especially BBC’s student to know more about “cancer”, about how bad it is, how to deal with people who have cancer diseases, and how to prevent the cancer itself.

We as the management of BBC-ETS Banyumanik Branch both the staffs and the teachers aware about this kind of thing, so we asked our students to support this activity by joining the activity and following every agenda that the management has provided. By watching the video about the people who have survived the cancer, presenting about how bad the cancer is and how to deal with it, and writing the letter for the people that they loved, we hope that our students aware about this disease, and the can grow their empathy, tolerance, and care.

We, BBC-ETS Banyumanik Branch will always support the goals of the World Cancer Day, and become a part to make better young generations.
