Ramadhan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by moeslems worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection and community. Fasting from sunrise to sunset is a duty for all adult Moeslems who are not chronically ill, pregnant, elderly, diabetic, or menstruating as well as travelling. The predawn meal is called as sahur, and the night feast that breaks the fast is called iftar.
The spiritual rewards of fasting are believed to be multiplied during Ramadhan. Accordingly, Moeslems refrain not only from food and drink, but also from tobacco products, sexual relations, and sinful behavior, devoting themselves instead to shalat (prayer), recitation of the Qur’an, and the performance of charitable deeds as they strive for purity and highlighted awareness of God (taqwa).
Then, what is BBC-ETS Banyumanik Branch usually doing when the month of Ramadhan comes? In welcoming the month of Ramadhan BBC-ETS Banyumanik usually holds activities related to Islam or Ramadhan itself. For example islamic fashion show competition, quicky maky quiz, coloring competition, recitation competition, free takjil distribution, Ramadhan Iftar, and infaq or sodaqoh to orphans or people in need.
Unfortunately, in this year, we can not conduct those activities due to the pandemic of Covid-19 that hit Indonesia. Hopefully, the pandemic can be quickly resolved, so that next year BBC-ETS Banyumanik will have a chance to conduct such activities as it used to be. Stay safe everyone.
